Peace; A ramble on a Saturday Morning

photo-on-16-11-25-at-5-14-pm-7Why don’t I write any more? Have I gotten out of the groove? I said it was back to art? But how much art have I actually done? It seems like I fret without the constant attention I seek and its become oh so clear that I have a fear of abandonment. I aught to be ashamed of myself. Nawwwww I shouldn’t be its just the way I am. Nevertheless a very lucky girl indeed with oh so many blessings to keep me going!

Dear god if you can hear me I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me and even the things you havnt or have not yet or never will. NORMALLY I wouldn’t even acknowledge you god but I am not perfect. Maybe you are not either? Or maybe you are? Or maybe you don’t exist? Or maybe I am the god I am talking to deep inside myself. But I don’t think so. But it is good to be humble and thankful and as peaceful as you possibly can. Its a beautiful morning indeed as the rain pours down outside my windows.

Thank you god/ Universe for all the people in my life; its amazing how many people are out there and its almost like they are there JUST for me. Its very special; I want you to know if you’re listening I am thankful you put my girlfriend in my life she’s truly wonderful for me and we’ve come along way together so please help guide us in the right direction; in particular help guide me in the right direction and keep her safe god. Keep my parents safe as well and all of my friends, they deserve the best; they are beautiful. As is everything in creation if we can all live in peace. Peace be upon this world in the name of everything beautiful.

SKIN STUFF via – Bayart

Did you know that the skin  is the largest organ of the body?  The average adult’s skin has a surface area of between 1.5 – 2.0 square metres.  Most of it is  2–3 mm thick. It’s made up of three layers – the outer layer (dermis) acts like a waterproofing barrier as well as creating the skin tone; the middle layer (dermis) contains connective tissue, hair follicles and sweat glands; the third layer (subcutaneous)  is made up of fat and connective tissue. The average square inch of skin holds 650 sweat glands, 20 blood vessels, 60,000 melanocytes, and more than 1,000 nerve endings.

But there’s more to it than that. The skin is our first line of defence. It protects us against toxins and excessive water loss. It also insulates, produces vitamin D folates, helps to regulate our body temperature, senses touch, pain, heat, cold. Its thickness varies depending on where it is on our body. Under the eyes it’s the thinnest, just 0.5mm,  which is why this area often shows first signs of ageing – wrinkles like crow’s feet! On the palms of our hands and the soles of our feet its 4mm thick. But the thickest skin of all is on our back – 14mm. That’s pretty amazing, don’t you think!

Given the importance of the skin to health and wellbeing, it makes sense to look after it.

Last week in my post Time to Cleanse  I talked about the benefits of DRY SKIN BRUSHING.

This week I want to follow up with some more ideas on how to rehydrate skin that is dehydrated or been subjected to harsh weather conditions and environmental / life / health stresses. In the northern hemisphere the season has begun its move from autumn to winter whilst down south we are in spring heading into summer. Both are good times to stop and give your skin a bit of extra special attention.

And while you’re at it why not include some added benefits and cleanse your Mind and Soul with a  meditation.

A good beginning is to make sure you drink plenty of good quality water throughout the day. Start with a large glass of room temperature filtered water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. This helps to kick start the digestive system. Wait a while before you breakfast – perhaps shower, dress, make the bed. Reduce or avoid (if you can ) –  alcohol, caffeine, soft drinks. Substitute with herbal teas. Peppermint is soothing for the stomach and digestion and chamomile, with a spoonful of honey,  is calming and good to have at bedtime.

To restore the skin to a healthy, vibrant glow, you might like to try some of the following :

  • Stop using harsh soaps. Try additive-free alternatives eg natural soaps and body washes; have a bath with a few tbsp dried milk powder OR 500 ml buttermilk and 1 tbsp glycerine; if you want a bubble bath use pure soap flakes to make a liquid soap and scent with some essential oils
  • Exfoliate using one of these options – use a natural bristle brush or loofah; OR oil-based sea salt scrub; OR tie 2 -3 tbsp oatmeal (with added essential oils if you wish) into a clean cotton hanky or muslin cloth;
  • make a thick paste from a handful of sea salt, almond oil and juice of half a lemon. Massage into dry skin. Rinse and slather on coconut oil

Make a body oil with 30ml almond oil. Add 4 drops each of juniper berry and rosemary oils, and 3 drops each of cypress  and  patchouli. This is both hydrating and firming.

Other oils you might want to try –

Olive oil –  is very high in vitamin E and K and contains high anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to help counter-act exposure to pollution, smoke and alcohol. It is so rich in nutrient value it can be used as a base oil or neat on any part of the body to moisturise and regenerate the skin.

Jojoba oil – most closely resembles natural skin oil. It contains  glucosides, minerals, vitamins and is rich in protein. Good for all skin types, it is highly penetrative. Use as a 10% addition to base oils.

Apricot kernel oil – contains vitamins and minerals. It is good for dry, inflamed, prematurely aged or sensitive skin. Use as a base oil or neat – for all skin types.

Avocado oil – contains vitamins, protein, lecithin and fatty acids. It is good for all skin types, especially dry and dehydrated skin. Use as a 10% addition to base oils.

Essential oils for dry, dehydrated skin – Benzoin, Patchouli, Carrot, German Chamomile, Palma Rosa, Geranium, Petitgrain, Lavender, Rose (don’t forget to test for allergies if sensitive – should a reaction occur wipe off with an unscented vegetable  oil such as olive or grapeseed oil. Do not use water – it will exacerbate the problem)

Guidelines for diluting essential oils into a base oil : between 12 – 30 drops per 30 mls of base oil.

Measurements : 1 tsp = 5 ml; 1 dstsp = 10 ml; 1 tbsp = 15 ml ;   20 drops essential oil = 1 ml

Just a quick word about essential oils. For your well-being, please make sure that you use 100% pure, therapeutic grade oils. Anything other than that may have harmful additives and chemicals. Personally I prefer to use Young Living essential oils  as I know I can trust the quality and purity of their products.

Journaling the bus. – Nina

20018758964_ff2cefb581_c

I was sitting in the borough; waiting for the bus….; crazy traffic so I pull out my tablet and start to type. The whole neighborhood is gridlock but the bus arrives 20 minutes later. The city is in a misty haze as I cross the Queensborough bridge; rain tattering windows and playing in the traffic . The usual rush hour traffic and people row after row simply stare at their phones. …I look up and ok up and I’m at 22nd… and it’s already iIt’s time to hop the next bus…

I sit here in my own little world amidst a bus full of people… Time going by very slowly as we go and stop and stop and go. These moments are perfect imagery of the 21st century as I look up at the bus advertisements “All ages. All genders. All orientations… Opt: Options for sexual health”. Safe sex busriders! And To the left of it is a security camera watching and listening to us all. The cameras never stop me from doing graffiti on the trains and bus’s; ” I just doubt anyone in authority really gives a fuck”. As I throw something up. Heh….
It sucks that I don’t have headphones as I type away because the noises I’m subject to in this moment are rather distracting and actually quite aggravating in the morning… I’m tired andn It sounds like 4 different conversations at once; all in Filipino… with the bleeps n buttons of the bus… reminds me of trying to watch cartoons while peaking on mushrooms ( I used to really like mushrooms) But I”m indifferent about public transit. Do I love it? Do I hate it? I’m not really sure. But i got to go pick up some dough for rent, the trip was inevitable. A cold rainy day in July!!! how odd. Even for Vancouver n. I’m freezing….

I kick my feet up and try to get comfy. Passing high rise towers. Farms. Shops. Rivers. This particular ride has nothing to really look at so… I guess it’s a good time to write. It’s almost time to get off for bus number 3. Sigh…. got to get money Nina…
Hopped on the next and I’ve reached the upscale neighborhood of Marpole or… South Granville on route to downtown. Starting to get extremely bored and I haven’t even arrived yet. I close my eyes and I’ll let the world pass without thought…. blink of an eye. Mission complete.

Journaling and thoughts on manifestation of future self. – Nina

I feel like if you believe strong enough something will happen. No matter how far away it is. If you start walking toward it; realizing it or not. You’re going to get there. Through the universes law of attraction. Good things and bad things and everything in between can be manifested. – Nina

5:00 AM July 23rd.

Coffee brews and the sky slightly lit and the neighbourhood in silence, other than the sounds of the frogs that live in the gutters. I’m tired but, not too tired to write. Finally my mind has readjusted back to the before sunrise wake-up time. So; I’m up before my alarm goes off and I quickly silence it.  Todays forecast is sunny n clouds with a high of 22 n a low of 14. Awake and alone as I’ve been for months in the morning. The day is young, and its mine…

Yes I’m alone; always alone in the morning n thats cool with me. Realizing lately that it’s okay to be alone, although it wasn’t easy for me to come to accept that notion. Being happy with ones own company is important for growth as a person and it give you time to think and I’ve been thinking a lot.

Thinking about the future and… An odd thing to feel is that you have manifested all of the aspects of your life to come together into a certain way; almost perfectly in sync… Seriously, the laws of attraction gives you these things you wanted and you try and ask yourself what you really want next? “What do I want?” and “Why do I want that?” or “How am I going to get that / there?” . How do I begin the process of manifesting once again? I honestly don’t know where I want to be heading next…

There are ways to try to manifest and realize / actualize your future through brain and mind maps; collages and lists of goals or visions of yourself in the future and I’ve used them several times which helped me get to many of the steps I’ve amounted to. Perhaps it’s time to rekindle the idea of manifesting through creativity and hard work and exploring ideas of what I really want for the rest of my life.

Luckily I’m alive today; Healthy with an opportunity to go after anything that I want. I don’t have anything holding me back (other than an anxiety disorder) but everyone has issues with that one way or another and I know that I’m extremely lucky for the freedom to choose any path… that, and as well as having all the supports I need… I am not in this alone…

Just alone in this physical moment.

At 5:00 AM July 23rd.

With love,

Nina

On guilt and remorse

Zen, Ego, Guilt.

Lou's avatarZen Flash

In Buddhism, the words ‘soul’ or ‘spirit’ are rarely used; instead, teachings refer to ‘mind’ and ‘consciousness’. Because there is no creator God in Buddhism, no sense of a supreme Judge or Deity-in-charge, but rather an acceptance that life is determined by constantly evolving causes and conditions- karma- there is no concept of sin either, in the sense in which it is understood in most religions, as a transgression of God’s will. The emphasis instead is on personal accountability for moral conduct. Robina explains that guilt is dismissed as a function of the ego, anger turned inward, a destructive emotion; this is quite distinct from remorse, which requires true acceptance of responsibility for one’s actions and a sincere effort to discover what changes for the better are needed.

Robina is a Buddhist nun, a Ani, working in the British prison system.  From the book “The Saffron Road”,By Christine Toomey. Portobello…
