Journaling.

9573130153_5606ef5d5f_o

It’s 5 am in the city I call home. The usual wake up time and I’m remembering my dreams as I do every night; a more fluid world….slightly terrified simply because my vivid dream world is so different to the real world I wake up to. It takes me 45 minutes to aclimatise to the new energies coming into my psyche and today it was overwhelming.

Writing is something I do as soon as I get up, they say the subconscious mind is still active. Perfect for the creative type. I have my coffee and peace of mind as the words I create slowly fill the screen. Writing gives me peace of mind. It also gives me peace of mind to be in love and fully transitioned into the woman I am today. I feel lucky.

I have an extroverted mind yet there’s a side of me attached to my lonesome creative or playful alone time; the introverted side important for my growth as a person. I hate writing about myself in a sense because usually when I come back to it I’m either disappointed in myself or something doesn’t quite feel right. On the other hand if I write in completely positive pretext about my life and situations it seems to make me happy to look back to myself standing strong in the face of danger.

Today is amazing.

Peaceful warrior. By Nina Yin

beautiful-and-emotional-anime-artwork-by-nuriko-kun-03

A sacred story of a Zen monk in ancient Japan; training under a samurai retainer Ninyin knew as the way; to make a decision in the space of seven breaths but couldn’t understand why he couldn’t get over a side to him; a side making him distracted from his training. To dash in head on was the way of the samurai; to dedicate ones body and mind to the way. Ancient Japan was an interesting place.

The Abbot sensed the distractions inside Ninyin One day the teacher instructed him to meditate in front of a mirror until he understood the purpose of this confliction within himself. Unsure of how his master sensed this he sat down in front of the mirror. On the first day he grew weary and applied powdered rouge when he was pale as not to look weak. On the second day his eyes began to open more widely and sensed a change in mindset and on on the third day; although his head was shaved as all the male monks were he saw a beautiful woman staring back at him and stared in awe at her.

“This is the side that has distracted me? “. Tears rolled down her cheeks and the purpose of the confliction became evident. Ninyin had studied Zen and meditated her whole life. To see who she really is.

She took the realization to the master; afraid of condemnation from the temple but enlightened within herself. The master said to her, “Live life as if Buddha’s eyes were always watching you, if you can live in peace than this is surely The Way”.

She became known as the peaceful warrior, and after staying at the temple for 10 years she grew her hair long and began travelling the cities unlike most monks; on a constant journey to enlightenment.

Write… something…. ;)

“Write, write something”. She said. Staring at the screen with a blank stare. But wait a second, this is emptiness in form, it’s non-conceptual. Of value or of nothingness but, it is writing…. so…. “your going somewhere right?”.

Write, write something”. She said again to herself getting frustrated. She takes a deep breath and thinks of her lover lying in bed. Someone whos special to her and she’d be lying to herself if she said she didn’t love her.

“Write, write something”. She starts to smile while the hip hop blares in the background. Thinking of the markers in her bag and how she’s about to ride the train.

I want to write.

“Write, write something”.

My eyes glimmer with reflections of the street lights passing by and my eyeshadow flashes green. The cold air makes me lick my pouty red lips. I’m ghostly in the winter; like a geisha. You can tell I’m deep in thought. And you wonder what I’m thinking about….

A Buddhist monk who studied and meditated on the teachings of Buddha for over a decade wanted to speak with an enlightened one who dwelled alone in a small temple high in the mountains. He prepared for his journey eager to hear his teaching. After 7 days of rigorous hiking he reached the temple.

The master greeted him and welcomed him inside. The master put some tea on to boil and they sat in silence. The monk became very eager and unsettled in not hearing his teaching. The master poured the tea and sat with the monk. The monk didn’t drink his tea and began questioning his master of Buddha.

The master replied.. “You have studied Buddhism for 20 years and can not simply enjoy this cup of tea?” The monk wept…. as another step to enlightenment lay under his feet….

Philadelphia Street Art. The beautiful aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

” Bordered by a failed public housing project, the exhibit, a colorful oasis in a desert of urban blight, has attracted public acclaim but private city condemnation, and new plans to build over the site’s dramatic history remain in limbo.”

“We wanted to make people talk about what happened here and what could happen here,”
Odums (a.k.a. bmike) says of ExhibitBE, which is part of theProspect.3 art biennial. “We hope that, with this, we get people to see blight differently. To see that it’s connected to something larger than just that physical space,” he says. “Each piece of blight is connected to someone’s story and that story deserves respect and deserves honor and deserves some consideration.”

Fung Shui: Balancing energy in home and life.

Bagua1

My girlfriend got me a Fung Shui book for Christmas and not long after the intro the author explained that the closet… ” No! Not the closet!” It’s energy would be negative on my life; chaotic if messy. The mess, the mess! ….The closet… it was a mess…. I ran into the bedroom! Folded everything neatly and placed the clothes against the wall (we just moved in) and breathing a sigh of relief I sat down and picked up the book again; feeling calmer than before; Flowing Chi.

There’s a chi story in the book.

“A man has to stoop under an overgrown branch to get in his front door. He doesn’t trim the branch, and has to stoop every day for a year to get in his door. Soon he begins to walk in a stooped posture everywhere he goes. One branch in need of trim has changed a mans gait. His stoop leads to illness, loss of work, and financial problems.

Now the man’s neighbor comes to the door with fresh vegetables from his garden. The branch hinders the neighbors easy access to the door, so instead of putting his basket down and stooping to get to the door, he decides to take his produce to someone else. What’s more, the neighbor leaves with the impression that the man isn’t very friendly. Why would he let the branch grow in front of his door if he were? He decides that he won’t visit the man again. In the days that follow, the neighbor mentions his experience to several people. Each time the story is told it gets more exaggerated, with everyone concluding that the man is an embarrassment to the neighborhood because of his poorly kept property and unwelcoming demeanour.

The compounded impact of one seemingly insignificant thing in the man’s life has become great indeed.” – T.K. Collins

Fung shui is acquired knowledge and perception of yin and yang as well as the 5 elements flowing chi’. This is very new to me. The above chart is a little over my head and probably more geared towards chi as a whole and not as a flowing space called home. But I like to view Chi’ in a simple way: Simple energies; creating a place to be productive, spiritual, happy…. far from a zen or fung shui master, I try to balance room; and thus is all I have practiced so far.

I find it similar to my zen studies as not to be messy, enjoy change and every moment and that everything has its order and it’s place. Fung shui teaches us that the energy is important; causing effects on all aspects of our lives, moving and flowing through the elements and I’m starting to see and understand, (a little).

Cleaning and arranging can be a spiritual and enjoyable processes if you let it be, “every step in life you may only take once,”. – Zen saying.

Enjoy brightening your life.

An open letter to my love.

It’s 6:50 AM. I’m feeling pretty good, I love the early mornings and they say its a good time to be creative because the subconscious mind is still active; naturally I go to the computer and begin writing. As I do every morning so it often gives me dejavu. Thinking about my girlfriend and what she means to me.

The coffee is made and she’s sound asleep in the bedroom. We saw star wars last night and it was really nice to finally got to see something in theaters because we watch movies obsessively; it’s almost absurd. I love her with all my heart, she likes to say “no you dont”, when I tell her I do. It’s a cute game. One of many; such a tease. Laughing as I type.*

Both of our lives shifted and changed in a huge way when we met; slowly at first but it seems as though we’ve moved mountains in this cherished blip in time. I’m moved in many ways; changed for the good. True love moves mountains and I feel blessed. Here I am; writing away with her as my inspiration. Codependent in a productive fashion, we like to set goals and 99% of the time we reach them, we are like an unstoppable force. At least that’s how I feel.

Alike and polar opposites, a perfect balance of attraction; opposites attracting, yin and yang.  The law of attraction we both believe in. She thinks she has bad luck and I think I have good luck ,so we can sit in harmony together; our lives balanced in opposition but also in love. She pushes me to keep going in all my art forms and avoid wasting my time and energy on useless “shit”.  I’m a slow learner and she is quick, so I appreciate when she can see the storms coming before I can.
