Sublime Abiding ; Sutra via GreatMiddleWay

Let me be able and upright,

straightforward and gentle in speech,

humble and not conceited,

contented and easily satisfied,

unburdened with duties and frugal in my ways.

Peaceful and calm and wise and skillful,

not proud or demanding in nature,

let me not do the slightest thing

that the wise would later reprove.

In gladness and in safety,

may all beings be at ease.

Whatever living beings there may be

—whether they are weak or strong, omitting none,

the great or the mighty, medium, short or small,

the seen and the unseen,

those living near and far away,

those born and to-be-born—

may all beings be at ease!

Let me not deceive another,

or despise any being in any state.

Let me not through anger or ill-will

wish harm upon another.

Even as a mother protects with her life

her child, her only child,

so with a boundless heart

will I cherish all living beings.

I will radiate kindness over the entire world

—spreading upwards to the skies,

and downwards to the depths,

outwards and unbounded—

freed from hatred and ill-will.

Whether standing or walking,

seated or lying down,

free from weariness,

I will sustain this recollection.

This is the sublime abiding.

Avoid Both – The Great Middle Way

There are two extremes that are not to be indulged in

by one who has gone forth. Which two?

That which is devoted to sensual pleasure

with reference to sensual objects:

base, vulgar, common, ignoble, unprofitable;

and that which is devoted to self-affliction:

painful, ignoble, unprofitable.

Avoiding both of these extremes,

the Middle Way realized by the Tathagata

—producing vision, producing knowledge—

leads to calm, to direct knowledge, to self-awakening, to liberation.

Return To Art; I built A Mini Zen Garden

I am always updating the little shrine in my living room. I had some sand from my visit to red rock nevada in a jar for over 12 years and finally had a very good use for it. I unscrewed an old wooden art box that held paints, pencil crayons, markers and pastels and filled it up with the sand. Placing buddha inside of a lotus in the centre 🙂 ….

As I continue on my mission for a Fung Shui home I hope this fire element zen garden can bring me some positivity.

Time for a break; Away from poetry and into traditional art media! – Nina

unnamed-1

Ive been blogging for 10 months and its been a blast writing articles, poetry and journaling but I have been starting to miss spending my spare time painting and sketching. I am exited to dedicate the months leading up to summer painting the things in life that inspire me.

I find inspiration from so many things; buddhism, graffiti, anime and my traditional native art to; painting portraits or abstract art and it is truly just as gratifying as writing a heartfelt poem or blog post. I’m happy to return to the sketchbook, wood, canvas and sometimes the concrete.

I spent a short portion today painting a large portrait of buddha and I loved it!

Im happy to keep it moving!

Care to join me?

Peace and Clarity – Buddhism and The Dharma Via GreatMiddleWay

These two mental states are conducive to correct knowledge. Which two?

Peace and clarity.By developing peace, what purpose is served? Mind is purified.

By purifying mind, what purpose is served? Craving is abandoned.

By developing clarity, what purpose is served? Wisdom is developed.

By developing wisdom, what purpose is served? Ignorance is abandoned.

Defiled by craving, the mind is not released [from emotional agitation], and defiled by ignorance, wisdom is not developed.

Thus, abandoning craving through peace, there is liberation of the mental fluctuations, and abandoning ignorance through clarity, there is liberation by wisdom.—Buddha

Shakyamuni, Vijjābhāgiya Sutta

The Minutest Action. Buddhism and The Dharma via Great Middle Way

Manifest phenomena arise through a combination of causes and conditions in a sequence of interdependent events. Now, since all phenomena are interconnected in this way, it follows that within the realm of relative truth the law of cause and effect is inescapable: positive and negative actions will inevitably result in happiness and suffering.

Once the causes and conditions are present, nothing can prevent the result from being produced, just as in the spring, if there are seeds in the ground and if the sun gives warmth and the rain moisture, flowers and fruit will appear.

That is why we should always be aware of the potential of even the minutest of our actions.

It is blameless and un-faulted by knowledgeable people. Which five?
