“Is there anything I can do to make myself Enlightened?”

Student: “Is there anything I can do to make myself Enlightened?”

Teacher: “As little as you can do to make the sun rise in the morning.”

Student: “Then what use are the spiritual exercises you prescribe?”

Teacher: “To make sure you are not asleep when the sun begins to rise.”

The toy box in my bedroom. A short story by Goodnightnina

Had to Reblogg!

Once upon a time, perhaps in another dimension of sorts. Or perhaps an altered reality ( a parallel to the norm which had been departed ). There was a world… it was a dark world like our own although the visions and communications to the mind lay shrouded in an unknown; as to wake up drunk in an amusement park in an abandoned ghost town. All those who enter this realm are intoxicated… euphoric… Or confused.

In this place the laws of physics are often bent, finding oneself transporting from one place to the next. Perhaps flying over the maps of which the reality created unto itself. It is itself; a living and growing place. It’s a place you’ve never been, but you have, faces you’ve never seen but it’s as though a permanent dejavu. Traveling along to its ominous melody.

I find myself in this place often. I climb…

When Two Zen Masters Meet. Zen Stories. via Zen Flash

“When two Zen masters meet, whoever speaks first has fallen from his status. Days may pass by; they may

eat together, they may look around at the beauty in the sunset and in the morning and in the starry night,

but nobody is going to say a single word. Not saying a single word and remaining just a mirror…..The

mirror never says anything about the reflection, neither does the lake. The moon may be beautiful, the

moon is reflected the lake should dance with joy. Similar is the case with consciousness. At its ultimate

peak works are left far below, as if you have risen above the clouds. The moment you bring any word in,

you have spoiled the whole communication.

If somebody asks you, “what is truth?”

show him your silence.

Show him your fragrance, show him your love.

Share with him your presence.”

Keepers of the Coast -Trailer via Warrior Publications

by Aaron Heidt, Vimeo, June 2016

Keepers of the Coast takes a close look at how the Kitasoo/Xai’Xais, Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, and Wuikinuxv Nations are stewarding our marine territories.
Full length release coming June 30th.

The central coast of British Columbia is one of the most spectacular and biologically rich places left on the planet – where ancient temperate rainforest intertwines with the living Pacific. The Heiltsuk, Kitasoo/Xai’Xais, Nuxalk and Wuikinuxv who have inhabited the central coast for thousands of years have joined forces, forming the Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance, otherwise known as CCIRA. Using a combination of traditional knowledge and science, the nations are committed to upholding their indigenous laws and stewarding these marine resources in a manner that sustains their cultures and ensures intact ecosystems, healthy communities and local sustainable economies, now and into the future.

There is a quote in tonight’s program that reads: “Having abandoned the taking of life, refraining from the taking of life, we dwell without violence, with the knife laid down —scrupulous, full of mercy— trembling with compassion for all sentient beings.”  ―Buddha Shakyamuni

When people think of Buddhist monks, if they think of us at all, they imagine that we dwell in clouds of incense, smiling serenely, unperturbed, meditating on nothing. But, as you just read, we are not called to drift placidly in emptiness, but to “tremble with compassion for all sentient beings”.

I thought that the mention of ‘trembling’ was just a rhetorical device, until late one night, returning with my Teacher from visiting with refugees, when we passed by a dark alley and heard the cries of fear and pain of…

“Keep going!” she said…

The tears

They stream down my face.

On a breakdown verge.

An… Apocalypse

Of the mind

Shattered pieces of life

Ashes

Something is heard through my sobbing…

Hearing myself as a child.

Screaming at me…

Screaming through space and time

At the top of her lungs

Through the years of pain and anguish

She screams.

“Keep going! Your almost there!”.

I hear her…

and I turn away from my nightmare….

wipe my chin*

“Thank you”.

I say back to her…

And place one more step

And then another…

Towards the concept…

The idea…

Of freedom…

And all of its glory.
