Writing can be the best medicine.

The difference between a conversation and a written statement is vast. I find myself lost for words often when dealing with stress. Ive been dealing with a lot of my own inner stress and anxiety lately… Voices in my head are all battling over each other and no one wins. But then I try writing down how I’m feeling and it’s like hitting a light switch; all of a sudden everything is fluid and coherent, meaningful and concise.

Thats why writing can be the best medicine!

Love you Larissa.

SomeOfUs.org: Palm Oil Victory

I received an email this morning.

Dear Nina

Palm oil

Indonesia is burning. Its beautiful rainforests are being ravaged by forest fires, deliberately set to clear the way for palm oil plantations.

SumOfUs members have sent a clear message to food giants that we won’t let them profit from deforestation.

And we are having a real impact. Starbucks announced a new policy on palm oil only hours after SumOfUs members held a protest outside the first ever Starbucks in Seattle. And SumOfUs members are keeping up the pressure on Unilever and PepsiCo.

We’re having success with our palm oil campaigns, but this industry is huge and we’ll be keeping up the pressure to make sure that all palm oil is responsibly sourced.

We won’t rest until all big food companies source conflict-free palm oil.

Just a fly in my tea

Zen Stories…

Bite-Size Dhamma's avatarBite-size Dhamma

“On this particular afternoon a fly fell into my tea. This was, of course, a minor occurrence. After a year in India I considered myself to be unperturbed by insects — by ants in the sugar bin, spiders in the cupboard, and even scorpions in my shoes in the morning. Still, as I lifted my cup, I must have registered, by my facial expression, or a small grunt, the presence of the fly. Choegyal Rinpoche, the eighteen-year-old tulku leaned forward in sympathy and consternation.

“What is the matter?”

“Oh, nothing,” I said. “It’s nothing — just a fly in my tea.” I laughed lightly to convey my acceptance and composure. I did not want him to suppose that mere insects were a problem for me; after all, I was a seaseoned India-wallah, relatively free of Western phobias and attachments to modern sanitation.

Choegyal crooned softly, in apparent commiseration with my…

The Circle of Compassion — Great Middle Way

When a drop falls on the surface of still waters, concentric waves are formed. These waves always travel from the center toward the periphery —never in the opposite direction. Similarly, when we cultivate spirituality, we start our practice with those beings closest to us. If we can help to reduce the suffering and increase the […]
